CFL announces Mexican combine & draft we already knew about

The CFL has finally announced the Mexican combine and player draft we reported on last week.  According to a release issued Thursday morning, the Mexico’s Liga de Futbol Americano Profesional – with whom the CFL signed a non-binding letter of cooperation in November – will host a combine Jan. 12 for “for leading pros and university seniors who hope to play in Canada.” The event will be held at Estadio Azul, a 33,000-seat stadium in Mexico City, and will feature the usual line up of bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 40-yard dash, 3-cone, short shuttle and positional drills – much like the CFL’s combine for USports athletes held each spring. There will be interviews with CFL teams, who are reportedly sending two representatives each, including all nine general managers (that bit isn’t included in the league’s release.) There will be a “draft” the following day, though details on that – like the order of the selection – is unknown. One would expect that the Toronto Argonauts, who had the worst record in the CFL last season, will select first overall, followed by the Montreal Alouettes (on the lookout for Mexican equivalent of Johnny Manziel, no doubt.)
